About Crystal

 

Crystal Darby is an award-winning small business advocate, advisor, and professional communicator based in San Antonio, Texas. She recently retired after 15 years as a Senior Business Advisor at the UTSA Small Business Development Center (SBDC), where she was named the 2024 State Star for the Texas South-West SBDC Network and a six-time Advisor of the Year. She continues business advising at Launch SA, a collaboration between the City of San Antonio and Geekdom, San Antonio’s startup hotspot and co-working space.

Throughout her career, Crystal has been a cornerstone of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, actively collaborating with community hubs like Geekdom and Launch SA to mentor founders and deliver impactful training. A pioneer in business training, she created the SBDC’s first social media curriculum and regularly equips small businesses to navigate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence integration. She was chosen to serve on America’s Small Business Development Center’s AI U curriculum committee. This committee of ten, chosen from across the country, designed and taught AI applications at the ASBDC national conference in Atlanta in September 2025.

Before her tenure at UTSA, Crystal successfully operated her own communications consulting firm, earning SBA district and regional accolades for her championing of home-based and women-owned businesses. She holds a BS from UT Austin and an MPA from the University of New Orleans.
